Your Marriage is Secondary

Posted in Marriage Monday

This being a marriage blog, the title may concern you.

I like this concern, please read on.

We are called to love our husbands and wives. To serve them, lead them, submit to them, etc., etc., etc. But are we called to put them first in our lives?

No.

So what comes first then?

Kids?

No.

Work?

No.

Family?

No.

This? Galatians 3:26-29, “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith,  for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.  There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.  If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Yes!

As believers of Christ, bought by a price and given full rights as His children, all else comes secondary to Him.

The joy in this is that by putting God and our relationship with Him first, we automatically overflow to all areas in our life, including our marriage.

When we struggle with our spouse, we should not seek to put them first to make things better, but to instead turn straight to the Lord who will love our husband or wife through us.

I know this is not the first time I have blogged something like this before, but I cannot stress is enough. If your marriage is struggling in the smallest or biggest of ways, seek the Lord for guidance and search your heart to check your relationship with Him. Not out of obligation or frustration, but out of the joy of being His child.

He tells us through James 1: 5-6, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”

And in Matthew 7: 7-8, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Ask Him to be first in your life. While it will not make life easier, I guarantee it will change things. First up on His agenda for your life: Your marriage. Get excited!
